Our friends of Standert Bicycles asked me to redesign and rebuild their shop in Berlin Mitte.
Serving as a hub of the Berlin cycling scene, the shop functions as a storefront, cafe, and workshop. Customers, friends and bike messengers often gather here for a coffee, to watch a bike race, and for their famous twice-weekly groupride, Feierabendrunde.
Standert offers outstanding quality bikes, has put considerable effort into their branding, and needed the shop space to speak the same language.
In addition, they are transitioning from a single shop to a multi location business, and we had to consciously conserve space by rethinking the existing product displays. We designed compact display modules to provide the storage space they need, in a limited area.
For this project, we selected a material combination of black stained birch wood and raw black steel, which form a simple but elegant contrast to the untreated brick walls, and leaves the bikes and products enough space to stand out.
